
Indices of Multiple Deprivation
We did analysis on the latest English Indices of Deprivation (November 2025), explaining how the Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) is constructed and how deprivation is distributed across the North East Combined Authority. Using population‑weighted analysis, maps and charts show how many people live within each deprivation decile across the region and its local authorities, alongside guidance on interpretation and change over time. An accompanying Additional Analysis page explores these patterns further, including rural–urban differences, comparisons with other Combined Authorities, and income deprivation affecting children and older people (IDACI and IDOPI).

National Travel Survey 2024
The National Travel Survey is a household survey of residents of England travelling within Great Britain. It is designed to monitor long‑term trends in personal travel and remains the primary source of data on travel behaviour across England. The survey provides valuable insight into how, why, when and where people travel, as well as the wider social, economic and behavioural factors influencing travel patterns in the North East.

Independent Commission on Neighbourhoods: Hyper-local need measure
Launched in September 2024, the Independent Commission on Neighbourhoods (ICON) reviewed the state of neighbourhoods across England developed the Hyper‑Local Need Measure, using data across five areas of need to show how neighbourhoods – including those in the North East – compare against key government benchmarks.

Local Growth Plan: Strategic Evidence Base
To support the development of the North East Growth Fund, an evidence base was developed and published in 2025 bringing together data, research and local insights. The ambition is to provide a clear picture of the challenges the region faces, and opportunity for action so we can deliver real, tangible benefits for our people, communities and businesses.

Measures of Child Poverty
The North East Child Poverty Action Plan includes a pledge to monitor progress against a set of measures from national datasets to ensure that we are heading in the right direction together.

National Travel Survey 2023
Read our analysis of personal travel in the North East region, as highlighted by the results of the 2023 National Travel Survey.
This was published at the start of 2025 and includes information about active travel, the use of public transport, and the reasons for travel. The statistics are based on a survey of individuals about their travel patterns.

Evaluation of the North East SEP
The North East Strategic Economic Plan was published in 2014, setting out how the North East LEP aimed to grow and develop the region’s economy. In April 2024, the LEP published an evaluation of its delivery to help inform the transformation to the new Mayoral Combined Authority.

Our Economy 2023
Our Economy brought together North East analysts, policy makers, business representatives and education providers each year. As well as an overarching update, Our Economy focussed on a particular theme. In the latest Our Economy (in 2023) the topic was inclusive productivity and the statistics were correct to the start of October 2023.

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) is a central pillar of the government’s five national missions. This evidence base from May 2022 provides key data and intelligence at that time covering the UKSPF's three key investment priorities.
