The Strategic Economic Plan 2014-2024
The North East Strategic Economic Plan (SEP) was published in 2014. It set out how the North East Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) aimed to grow and develop the region’s economy. In April 2024, the LEP published an evaluation of the delivery of the SEP to help inform the transformation to the new Mayoral Combined Authority.
Our Economy 2023
Each year, Our Economy brings together attendees from the North East community, with a mix of policy makers, business representatives and education providers. As well as an overarching update, Our Economy also focuses on a particular theme. In 2023, this was inclusive productivity and the update included statistics correct to the start of October 2023.

Published by the North East LEP in February 2023, this analysis took a fresh look at the global trends and economic markets that present opportunities for future North East regional growth.
UK Shared Prosperity Fund
The UK Shared Prosperity Fund is a central programme to support government’s Levelling Up agenda. This Evidence Base from May 2022 provides key data and intelligence at that time covering Levelling Up and the UKSPF's three key investment themes.
Digital Technology Evidence Base
Published in December 2022, this evidence base includes an analysis of the regional and sector digital technology data at the time, a review of the available literature and an insight into links between the digital technology sector and national policy. It also explores North East digital assets.
Advanced Manufacturing Evidence Base
Published in January 2023, this evidence base provides a definition for advanced manufacturing, explores trends in the sector and examines its North East economic context. It looks at the contribution of the sector towards emerging policy areas and at the regional asset base.
Defence and Security Evidence Base
This evidence base was was generated in July and August 2023 in support of the launch of a regional defence and security cluster. It examines the economic impact of defence and security in the North East region. Supported by the Ministry of Defence (MOD), these clusters aim to invigorate the Defence industrial base by facilitating industry, academia and government to share ideas.
